In this article, we are going to share just some of the great spots you can walk your dog around North Wales, including the most scenic spots in Snowdonia.
In Our Park!
If you don’t want to travel far for your walks when staying at Henstent Park, you can enjoy a beautiful walk here! One of the routes you can take is set along the riverbank. In addition, a longer walk can be followed from the pedestrian gate where you can join the public footpath on route. Alternatively, if you’re looking to venture outside the park for your walking routes, let’s explore just some that are local to Bala.
Llyn Elsi
Situated in the village of Betws-y-Coed, you will find the beautiful lake of Gwydir Forest. This walk will take approximately 2 hours to complete, with a distance of 4 miles. On route, you will find the Ancaster Memorial beside the water, with panoramic views of mountain ranges of Snowdonia. If you’re wanting a day out, this village offers a range of stops to grab a bite to eat, plus independent shops along the way. If you’re looking for an easy route to walk, then this is one to try!
Torrent Walk
A beautiful walk within Snowdonia National Park. Situated in Dolgellau, you will find a racing waterfall. Your four legged friend will have the chance to roam free in some areas, but in others they will need to be kept on a close lead.
This route is a 2.7 km circular walk and is generally considered to be an easy enough route to follow. On average, it will take about 1 hour to complete this circular route. As this is a popular destination for hikers, runners and dog walkers, you’ll come across a range of fellow adventurers on your visit.
The Long Mynd
Set in an area of outstanding beauty, this walking route features rocky climbs, wonderful views and also spots for wild swimming if you fancy a splash.
Sat on the English and Welsh border, this part of Wales carries for 7 miles, with sights of wild ponies and beautiful views. Starting from the National Trust car park at Carding Mill Valley, this spot is great for a day out with family. Dogs are welcome here, so enjoying the shallow streams and taking a splash will leave their tails wagging.
This walking route will take up to 2 hours to complete. Enjoy the selection of shops and take a stop for a bite to eat, including a range of delicious cakes to enjoy at Jemima’s Kitchen.
Coed y Brenin
This terrain is a well-maintained forest path with some moderate inclines. You can begin your walk from the Pont Llogel car park, which is located within Coed y Brenin Forest Park. Parking is available here, and there are facilities such as toilets and picnic benches nearby too. This walk is relatively moderate, with a duration of around 2 hours and distance of 3 miles.
As you explore the forest, you’ll encounter scenic viewpoints, tranquil streams, and cascading waterfalls along the way. Keep an eye out for opportunities to pause and take in the breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside, including glimpses of the nearby mountains and valleys.
