You may know what camping is but did you know there are several different types of camping in Bala that you can enjoy? Surprisingly, camping has been around a very long time and over the years it has developed into different ways you can enjoy the great outdoors. Take a look for yourself at all the different types of camping there are and maybe try out something a little different this year.
Hands down this is one of the most popular types of camping out there and the one that most people associate with the word “camping”. It involves camping – in a tent. There’s nothing quite like heading to a camping site, pitching up and sleeping there for a few nights whilst enjoying all the outdoor sounds. Usually, campsites are located near woods, beaches and more tourist hotspots with things to do right on your doorstep.
If you haven’t tried camping before, we highly recommend you do. It’s a great way to get away from it all without having to spend a lot of money to do so. It’s great for families and it creates a great bonding atmosphere without the need for technology.
Touring Vans or RV’s as the American’s call it are a great way to camp out. It has a nice balance of outside and in – and means having a comfy bed to sleep in at night time. The other great thing about touring vans is that you don’t have to spend your time pitching up, just turn up and stay in the very same vehicle you arrived in – neat right? Touring vans are great for visiting various spots along the way, allowing you to explore much more whilst on holiday.
Backpacking is very different. Backpacking involves carrying all your equipment including your tent with you at all times. This means that when you are backpacking you are much more limited to the amount of equipment that you can take into the wilderness – and that’s including your food too! Not to mention, you will need to make sure you pack lightweight items as it will take a toll on your back carrying a heavy bag all day.
These types of trips can last from just one night or even several months. If you are hoping to go backpacking, plan well in advance and let someone know your plans too in case of any emergencies.
This type of camping has become more popular over the last few years due to TV programs such as Bear Grylls. This type of camping is the most extreme and should only be attempted by skilled campers. You will need to be a lot more self-sufficient including knowing how to fish, and to know what types of plants are edible. Overall, this type of camping is great for those who want to be tested on their survival skills, but it isn’t for everyone.
